My name is Geoff and I have no clue what I’m doing. No really, I have no clue. You see woodworking isn’t something that I’ve always done. Over the past few months, I’ve been getting more and more into woodworking. So for my 31st birthday, my wife and family gave me some gift cards so that I could purchase my own tools.
As I began to search for which tools I wanted/needed, I started researching each brand and tool. There were so many to choose from and each brand and tool had its pros and cons. Honestly, I was lost. I ended up taking the advice of some sales associates at some home improvement stores, but once I got home and started using the tools I quickly realized I had made some mistakes. The tools that were “cheaper” in price were often times cheaper in quality. Taking advice from sales associates meant buying tools that were sometimes sub par in quality. I learned quickly that most of the time you get what you pay for.
After finally getting some tools, I started working on projects. Since then I’ve been learning from some of the awesome makers on youtube. One thing that I quickly realized is the steep learning curve within woodworking. Most of the tutorials and videos quickly brushed over the simple and basic principles of woodworking. It wasn’t their fault. Their purpose wasn’t to teach those things, it was to show complete builds and projects.
Suddenly I had an idea. I want to help those who are interested in learning more about wood working. To help those who find themselves where I was a few months ago, learning the right tools for the right job. Help them navigate the crowded power tool market and understand how the right tool makes the job much easier. While also doing making some projects that every woodworker is interested.
I have a digital media background, so I knew that I could make some quality material that shows the process from start to finish and gives quality insight to everyone, whether you’re a first time woodworking or have been doing this for years.
So that’s the goal of this site. To help people learn from the bottom up what woodworking is all about. Along the way, I’ll be posting videos and blog articles on tool reviews, project builds, tool overviews and more.Hopefully you’ll find this site helpful. If you have any questions, give me a shout. I love chatting with other woodworkers!
